Un sueño hecho realidad

Llevar la Nomadic Rebel Clown Academy a Valencia fue un sueño hecho realidad. Ojalá todos los sueños se cumplieran de forma tan fácil, divertida y gratificante.
Todo empezó en internet. Vi las publicaciones de Robyn Hambrook sobre la Nomadic Rebel Clown Academy. En aquel entonces ya habían impartido cursos en Estocolmo y Berlín, y lo que vi fue publicidad o reportaje sobre el curso de Bruselas. Recuerdo haber pensado que me encantaría hacer ese curso, pero, que ahora mismo no me lo podía permitir para pagarlo, ni el viaje, ni el alojamiento.
Poco después se me ocurrió que si organizaba uno aquí en Valencia, no tendría que pagar el viaje ni el alojamiento, así que dejé de preocuparme por la matrícula. Recaudaría fondos o pediría una tarifa reducida o gratuita a cambio de encargarme de la organización local. De alguna manera, participaría.
¿Dónde y Cúando?
El Espai de Circ parecía el lugar ideal para impartir la formación. Soy socia de la asociación y sus especialidades son la enseñanza de las artes circenses y el intercambio intercultural. Les pregunté y aceptaron con alegría; a única condición era que se realizara durante las vacaciones escolares, ya que de lo contrario la escuela estaría ocupada con sus propios cursos.
Era otoño de 2024. Elaboré una propuesta y escribí a Robyn e Hilary. ¡Dijeron que sí! Y pusimos rumbo a las vacaciones de Semana Santa de 2026. En el proceso, le pedí a una compañera que me ayudara con la organización, ¡y voilà! A principios de este mes lo conseguimos: ¡Nomadic Rebel Clown Academy edición 2026 Valencia!
¿Qué hicimos?
Cinco días, todos diferentes, pero con elementos constantes que fortalecieron la dinámica grupal, invitaron a que nuestra energía payasa se manifestara y exploraron la intersección entre el individuo, el colectivo y la figura del clown rebelde. Aprendimos formas de movernos por la calle y expresar ideas. Creamos un lenguaje para comunicarnos de diversas maneras: rápido, despacio, pero siempre con claridad. Así nuestro pequeño rebel clown grupo pudiera trabajar en la calle, y durante la creación y los ensayos.
Investigamos el paisaje y consideramos cómo podría servirnos a exponer sobre los problemas sociales que nos preocupan. El miércoles y el jueves, pequeños grupos presentaron breves números en la calle, basándose en nuestra experiencia y aplicando nuevos aprendizajes. El abuso de la naturaleza, el impacto del turismo en la comunidad local, y las fronteras y el derecho a la migración fueron los temas que abordamos.
El viernes, tuvimos dos horas para reflexionar y preparar un breve número individual para la calle.
Dudaba de poder desarrollar una pieza en el tiempo que teníamos, pero también estaba dispuesta a intentarlo y ver qué pasaba. ¿Qué más podía hacer? Las condiciones estaban ahí para apoyarnos y animarnos a todas, y pasara lo que pasara, el aprendizaje, de una forma u otra, se produciría.
Y sabes qué, las (work-in-progress) presentaciones fueron bellas, potentes, conmovedoras. Todas fueron únicas y daban pie a la reflexión.
Al final quedé bastante satisfecha con mi experimento. Exploré el tema de las visiones binarias del mundo (sí-no, bueno-malo, correcto-incorrecto). Aún queda trabajo por hacer, pero una idea que tenía en mente se ha puesto en práctica, y eso es positivo.
Agradecimientos
Sobre todo, quiero agradecer a todas las personas y al entorno que nos acogieron e hicieron posible la Nomadic Rebel Clown Academy en Valencia. A equipo docente que también son investigadoras y administradoras del curso, Robyn e Hilary. Desde la publicidad hasta la inscripción, la enseñanza y la clausura. ¡Bravo! ¡Qué dúo dinámico!
Y, por supuesto, a todas las personas que participaron, a la fotógrafa y al equipo de logística, así como a todas las personas que difundieron la información digitalmente o de boca en boca, y a quienes abrieron sus hogares para alojar a alguna gente del curso, a la escuela de circo, a todas que se encargan del mantenimiento y la limpieza del espacio. Y a la Madre Tierra, el lugar donde se ubica la escuela.
Gracias también al universo por la coincidencia de compartir el espacio con el Handstand Fiesta Valencia 2026. 75 personas (participantes, voluntarias y personal de catering) se reunieron para talleres diarios sobre técnicas de equilibrio de manos y perfeccionamiento de la práctica.
Allí estábamos nosotros, en nuestro pequeño rincón, aprendiendo técnicas de rebel clown, y en el resto del espacio, la gente contemplaba el mundo al revés. ¡Una combinación perfecta!

NRCA Valencia – del 6 al 10 de abril 2026, en el acogedor Espai del Circ en Alboraya, Valencia, de las 10 de la mañana hasta las 17h, 20 personas (más o menos) y el equipo docente de categoria, Robyn e Hilary.
Clowns desempeñan un papel fundamental al hacer invisible lo visible, señalan lo absurdo de la realidad que nosotras hemos creado. Clowns rebeldes pueden presentar una perspectiva sobre un tema, pero en última instancia, no se trata de tomar partido. El motivo es unirnos a todas para trabajar por el bien de la humanidad.

Nomadic Rebel Clown Academy
A dream come true
Bringing the Nomadic Rebel Clown Academy to Valencia was a dream come true. If only making all dreams come true were so easy, fun, and gratifying.
It all began on the Internet. I saw Robyn Hambrook’s publications about the Nomadic Rebel Clown Academy. At that time they had done Stockholm and Berlin, and what I saw was either publicity for the Brussels course or reporting about it. I remember thinking that I would love to do that course, but it’s beyond my means right now to pay for the course, travel, and lodging.
Soon after, it occurred to me that if I were to organize one here in Valencia, I wouldn’t have the travel and lodging expenses and I suspended concerns about the course fee. I’d fundraise, or ask for a reduced or no fee in exchange for doing the local organizing. Somehow I would take part.
Where and when?
The Espai de Circ seemed an obvious place to hold the training. I am a member of the association, and circus arts education and intercultural exchange are their specialities. I asked and they were pleased to host the course, the only stipulation was that it had to be during school holidays because otherwise the school is occupied with their own courses.
It was Autumn 2024. I made a budget and a proposal and wrote to Robyn and Hilary, they said yes! And we set sights on Easter holidays 2026. Along the way I asked a compañera to join me in the organizing and violà! Earlier this month we pulled it off, Nomadic Rebel Clown Academy edición 2026 Valencia!
What did we do?
Five days, all different and yet with constant elements that built the group dynamic, invited our clown energy to play and explored the intersection of the individual, the collective and the rebel clown. We learned forms and ways of moving through the street and expressing ideas. We created language to communicate in a variety of ways – quickly, slowly yet always clearly so our small group of clowns could work effectivley together on the street, and during creation and rehearsal.
We investigated the landscape and considered how it could serve as a platform to address the social problems that concerned us. On Wednesday and Thursday small groups presented short numbers in the street, building on our experience and applying new learning. The abuse of nature, the impact of tourism on the local community, and borders and freedom of movement of people were the themes that we explored.
On Friday, we had two hours to reflect, explore and prepare a short individual number for the street.
I doubted I could develop a piece in the time we had, but I was also willing to try and see what happened. What else could I do? The conditions were there to support and encourage us all, and whatever happened, learning, in one way or another, would take place.
In the end I was happy enough with my experiment. I explored the topic of binary world views (yes-no, good-bad, right-wrong). There’s still more work to do on it, but a still idea in my brain has been put into action, and that’s a good thing.
The work-in-progress performances were beautiful, powerful, and moving. They were all unique and thought-provoking.
Enormous Gratitude
Above all I want to acknowledge and thank all the people and the landscape that welcomed us and made Nomadic Rebel Clown Academy possible. The teachers/researchers/administrators who pull the course together, Robyn and Hilary. From publicity, to registration, teaching and wrap-up. Bravo! What a dynamic duo. And of course, all the participants, the photographer and logistics team, as well as all the people who pass on publicity digitally or word of mouth, the people who opened their homes to host some of the participants, the circus school, coordinators, and the whole team behind them maintaining the space. And Mother Earth, the land where the school is located.
Thank you too to the universe for the coincidence of sharing the space with Handstand fiesta Valencia 2026. 75 people (participants, volunteers and catering team) joined together for daily workshops about handstand techniques and developing the practice.
There we were in our little corner learning rebel clowning techniques and in the rest of the space people viewing the world upside down. A perfect match!

From April 6th to 10th, in the renown Espai del Circ in Alboraya, Valencia, from 10 am to 5 pm, 20 people (more or less) and the number one rebel clown teaching team, Robyn and Hilary.
Today, more than ever, clowns play an important role in making invisible, the visble, the absurness of our reality, that we create! A rebel clown may present one side of an issue, but utlimately it’s not about taking sides. Clowning aims to bring us all together to work for the good of humanity.
